Neonatal pain assessment and management in Aotearoa, New Zealand

This project will provide the first comprehensive evidence of neonatal pain care in Aotearoa NZ by (1) auditing NICU charts to quantify the number and type of painful procedures very preterm infants are exposed to across their stay and understand documentation gaps, (2) surveying clinicians to understand current pain management practices, barriers, and facilitators, and (3) gathering parent and whānau perspectives of pain management and parent-led involvement in pain care as well as cultural acceptability of future research and practice through surveys and interviews, including whānau Māori.
