This pilot study explores whether naturally shed baby teeth can reveal traces of stress experienced before birth. Because teeth begin forming in utero and preserve time-stamped biological records, they may offer a novel way to understand how prenatal stress becomes embedded in early development. The study will test the feasibility, acceptability and cultural appropriateness of collecting and analysing children’s teeth in Aotearoa New Zealand, laying the groundwork for future research on prenatal stress, child regulation and mental health.
